The work made of patinated bronze depicts a hunting bird. This expressive sculpture was created in the studio of renowned master bronzer Jules Moigniez.
About the artist: (28 May 1835 Senlis - 29 May 1894 Saint-Martin-du-Tertre) French sculptor, absolute grandmaster specializing in animalism. Initially he studied under his father, a goldsmith by profession, who bought a metal foundry to support his son. Then he took sculpture lessons in Paris in the atelier of the famous sculptor Paul Comoler, who had a great influence on his student's work. Soon the student surpassed the master and in 1855 he had his first major exhibition. From then on he regularly exhibited his works at the Paris Salon. Wonderful, extremely naturalistic sculptures of animals, especially birds, enjoyed great interest not only among connoisseurs of art but also mass buyers. In 1869 the company J.E. Caldwell & Co. began importing the artist's works to the United States. After Moigniez's death, his father continued his son's work for a short time. The bird sculptures made by the artist are among the most beautiful ever created in bronze.
