Brooch - seashell cameo

A rare specimen of a cameo made of a sea shell (Conchifera) from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The luminaire was designed as intertwined twigs of honeysuckle, which surround the unusual image of Flora - the Roman goddess of spring. Flora, wrapped in a muslin robe, hovers above the ground and from her hand the flower bouquets fall. The jeweler intended that this brooch symbolize the transition from winter (still naked honeysuckle) to spring (the figure of Flora - the goddess of flowers and spring). The cameo is a kind of gem displaying an image in convex relief that uses precious stones, preferably in two colors, such as corals or sea shells. The brittleness of the material, the precision of the artistry, the refined beauty of its pure form – all this makes this gem absolutely unique and unrepeatable.
