Victorian Brooch with Garnets

Price range: (5 000 zł - 10 000 zł)

SOLD

Brooch made of two movable elements, decorated with a chain. A thin gold leaf, perfectly applied and chiseled with a rococo-style motif. Two almandine cabochons – garnets – are embedded into closed cassettes. The garnet is a mineral belonging to the group of silicates, deriving its name from the Latin word for pomegranate (granatus), which indicates the similarity of the stones to pomegranate seeds. Garnets have always been surrounded with aura of mystery and since ancient times they have been ascribed magical powers, thus the stone took a special place in the goldsmithing of the second half of the 19th cenury. The brooch, in the way it was made and decorated, perfectly reflects the atmosphere of sentimental Victorian jewelry.
