Louis-Francois Cartier began his activities in Paris in 1847 when he took over the studio of the famous watchmaker Adolph Picard. Its name was "Louis-Francois Cartier, successor to Monsieur Picard, making jewelry, fancy ornaments, fashion accessories and novelties." In 1898, his son Alfred moved his studio to the center of luxury, the Parisian Rue de la Paix 13. The brand became ever more famous and recognizable, and so further branches were established in London and New York. Alfred handed over the company to his three sons, the eldest Louis, who ran the Paris salon, received the title of "King among jewelers" from Prince Edward VII of Wales. To this day, the brand is synonymous with luxury goods, exclusive jewelry and elegant watches.
