An alloy of high-grade silver and gold, featuring a Verneuil ruby in the company of diamond rosettes. In 1888, the French chemist A.V Verneuil discovered the first synthetic rubies suitable for jewelery purposes in his laboratory.
Auguste Victor Louis Verneuil (November 3, 1856 – April 27, 1913) French chemist best known for inventing the first commercially viable process to produce synthetic gemstones. In 1902, he discovered the "flame fusion" process, called the Verneuil process, which is still in use today as a way to produce artificial corundum, rubies and sapphires.
