Maison Janesich

This set, including a powder and lipstick case, was created in the Art Deco era in the Janesich jewelry studio in Paris. Made of 18 carat gold decorated with enamel, onyx and diamond rosettes. A clever combination of both pieces makes a spectacular pendant. Additionally, the powder box is equipped with a small crystal mirror and a special space for powder and a case for lipstick with a mechanism that allows you to slide the lipstick out.

The Janesich jeweler was founded in 1835 in Trieste, Italy, by Leopoldo Janesich (1802-1880), a Dalmatian by birth. Thanks to many years of practice, Janesich reached the pinnacle of jewelry craftsmanship. His clientele included both noble-born and bankers, ship owners and wealthy merchants. He established contacts with suppliers from Florence, Rome, Venice, Milan, Vienna and Hanau. After his death, his son Giovanni Battista Janesich (1836-1927) and his grandchildren Alberto and Giuseppe continued his activity. In 1896 Giovanni founded a jewelry wholesaler on Rue de Lafayette in Paris and began working with the other famous jewelry designers: Bulgari, Chaumet, Vever and Tiffany & Co. In 1913 his son Alberto expanded his activity and opened shops in Paris: in Rue de la Paix - a street called "temple of Parisian luxury" and in Monte Carlo. The Paris shop was founded between Tiffany and Cartier. Albert Giuseppe's brother continued to work in Trieste. In 1913 Alberto Janesich was a guest at the celebrations of the 300th anniversary of the Romanov Dynasty in St. Petersburg, after this event Janesich began to sell to the royalty of Europe: King Nicholas of Montenegro, Prince Amedeo of Aosta, Princess Ruspoli, Princess Metternich, Baroness Rothschild, Princess Mafalda of Savoia. After the First World War another shop on New Bond Street in London was opened. Subsequently, further French branches were established in Deauville and Vichy. Janesich established cooperation with Van Cleef & Arpels and Boucheron as well as Baume and Mercier. In 1923, the company exhibited its preciosity at the Decorative Arts Festival in Monza, Italy, at the Royal Villa royal estate, which eventually conquered the "World of precious jewels and unusual products", but it must be remembered that Janesich is not only one of the best jewelers in Europe, but also excellent manufacturers of utility items such as silver tableware.

The quintessence of the goldsmiths' activity were various types of cases made in the Art Deco style: for powder, lipstick, mirrors, medicine, business cards or playing cards. These objects were usually made of gold decorated with diamonds, onyxes, lemons and many other precious stones and multicolored enamel arranged in fancy patterns with references to Asian art. The artists' studios also created a crown adorning Madonna's head from the Castelmonte sanctuary.

In 1925 Casa Savoia (the Savoy Royal House in Savoy) honored the "Kings of Art Deco" as Janesich was called the royal award for special merits in the field of goldsmithing. In 1927 after the death of Giovanni Janesich his son Giuseppe introduced into the arcana the activities of his son Pietro, called Momo. Alberto died in 1933 and his brother Giuseppe closed shops in France in 1937. After the closing of other stores, the difficult post-war activity of his distinguished ancestors was continued by Pietro - a cultured and sophisticated man, who became famous for his saying - "all the best customers left." Today, while maintaining the family tradition in Trieste, Francesco Janesich, representing already the sixth generation of this distinguished family of goldsmiths, is active.
