Belle Époque brooch with diamonds and opals (plique-a-jour technique)
Price range: (> 50 000 zł)
French Art Nouveau, Vienna's Jugendstil and Polish Secession all came about during the time of the "Beautiful Era" or La Belle Époque. The most beautiful styles in European art were shaped at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. In these designs we find numerous motifs taken from nature, from flora and fauna, fluid lines and rich ornamentation. All this we see contained in this brooch made around 1900. The core of the jewel consists of two opals – one oval placed centrally and a pear-shaped one surrounded by diamonds. The opal in the heart of the brooch seems to surround the petals of the flower, whose ephemeral character is emphasized by the enamel technique plique-a-jour (stained-glass enamel). The delicate blue and beautiful green of transparent enamel, allow through a delicate light, and give an unusual illuminating effect that gives the impression of floating flakes. The jewel was certainly made to order and came directly from the hands of the artist – a jeweller whose artistry is comparable to that of René Lalique.
