A chromotypographic poster for the National Theatre in Paris. L'Odéon is one of the oldest theaters in Paris, founded between 1779 and 1782, and in 1841 it became the "second national theatre." Since 1970 it has been known as the National de l'Odéon. The author has chosen well his theme for the advertising of the performances taking place in the theatre. In a small box we see a charming young lady accompanied by a noble old lady. Both of them listen to the performance in progress with great attention and concentration. In the lower left hand corner, the inscription VDH SC in the right-hand corner contains the signature of the author of Grasset.

About the artist: (1841-1917) A painter, sculptor, poster artist and graphic artist of Swiss origin, living and working in France. Born on 25 May 1841 in Lausanne. He made art posters for the theaters in Lausanne and Paris. In 1890 he began working on the Laroussel edition. In addition, he designed many household objects: stained glass, metalwork and upholstery. He died on 23 October 1917 in Sceaux. As a versatile artist and one of the pioneers of Art Nouveau, he was often invited to cooperate on numerous projects and government orders.
