The work was inspired by a painting by Alfred Wierusz-Kowalski entitled "Sledding across the Steppe". With great artistry, the artist created an extremely contrasting picture framed by a winter landscape. On the one hand, the frosty silence of the endless Ukrainian wilderness reflects the reality of a distant country. On the other hand, the expression of the snow that splashes with hooves, as if they were mad in the rush of horses. This beautiful, nostalgic composition will surely be an ornament of many collections of landscape paintings. The signature is placed in the right bottom: "V. Kulschinskj Mn." Canvas and painting layer in good condition. The well selected frame in gold perfectly emphasizes the snow white of the landscape.
About the artist: A painter of Russian origin, living and working in Munich. In his works one can see the fascination with the work of artists from the "Munich School". It was a group of painters of Polish origin living and working in Munich at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, whose informal founder and leader was Józef Brandt. Next to him, the school included brothers Maksymilian and Aleksander Gierymski, Juliusz Kossak and Alfred Wierusz-Kowalski (1849-1915). Their works were characterized by patriotism, historical themes, and poetry and folklore.
