One of Rust's most beautiful marine works. In the foreground we see a small fishing boat supplying a single-masted sailing ship moored to the waterfront. On the left side we can see the harbor buildings shrouded in a delicate mist of sea breeze. A little farther away, on the quiet waves of the ocean, single-mast sailing boats float majestically. On each of them the flag in the the national colors of the Netherlands proudly blows. In the left bottom of the composition we can see a fragment of a wooden boat lying on the sand right next to the shore. On one of the boards the author ingeniously placed his signature "J.A.Rust." The work is characterized by an unusual finesse in rendering even the smallest detail and the masterful use of light, introducing an aura of mystery. The canvas and paintings are in good condition. A perfectly matched frame complements the whole piece.

He worked mainly in oil but did not avoid watercolor and sepia. Rust died on 27 July 1915 in Amsterdam.
